Reddit uses a flavor of Markdown based on the original Markdown specification with some Reddit-specific additions. Key differences from standard Markdown: Reddit requires two line breaks for paragraph spacing (a single return is ignored), superscript uses the ^ character, spoiler text uses >! text !<, and Reddit supports a unique table syntax with pipe characters. The old Reddit editor (markdown mode) and new Reddit editor (fancy pants) handle formatting differently — our tool optimizes for the markdown editor which is more widely compatible. Reddit posts have a 40,000-character limit for text posts and 10,000 for comments. For best results, use headers sparingly (## for main sections), keep paragraphs short, and use bullet lists for scannable content.
