What Is Image GPS Viewer?

A GPS extraction tool that reads geographic coordinates embedded in photo EXIF data and displays the latitude, longitude, and a link to view the location on a map. Many smartphone cameras automatically embed location data when photos are taken. This tool parses the GPS-specific EXIF tags and converts them from degrees/minutes/seconds to decimal format. All parsing happens in your browser for privacy.

Why Use Our Image GPS Viewer?

  • Extracts GPS latitude, longitude, and altitude
  • Converts DMS coordinates to decimal format
  • Direct link to view location on Google Maps
  • Privacy-first client-side parsing

Technical Guide

GPS data is stored in the EXIF IFD-GPS directory with specific tags: GPSLatitudeRef (N/S), GPSLatitude (3 rationals for degrees, minutes, seconds), GPSLongitudeRef (E/W), GPSLongitude, and GPSAltitude. The parser reads these from binary JPEG data using DataView, converts rational pairs to decimals, and applies N/S and E/W references as sign. Decimal coordinates are formatted to 6 decimal places.

  • 2
Social media platforms usually strip GPS on upload
  • 3
Disable geotagging in camera settings for privacy
  • 4
GPS accuracy depends on the device that took the photo

Accuracy depends on the device GPS — typically within 5-10 meters for smartphones.
QCan I see the location on a map?
Yes — the tool provides a direct Google Maps link for the extracted coordinates.
